Description
PCTFE (PREVIOUSLY KNOWN BY SIMILAR BRAND KEL-F)
Kel-F is a brand discontinued by 3M. The material is PCTFE (polychlorotrifluoroethylene) and combines properties of non-flammability, chemical resistance, close to zero moisture absorption and excellent electrical properties not found in any other thermoplastic fluoropolymer. Works well in a temperature range of -400 ° F to 400 ° F.
PCTFE also has high compressive strength, exceptional cold flow resistance, and is optically transparent. Because PCTFE is a highly fluorinated resin, it is non-flammable and resists most corrosive chemicals.
It also maintains its excellent electrical insulation capacity through thermal cycling and in high humidity environments. The high compressive strength and dimensional stability of the product make it a good choice for structural material, while its low degassing rate and permeability make PCTFE a good choice for instrumentation, laboratory, aerospace and flight applications. Other common applications include cryogenics, valves, seals and films for food packaging and pharmaceuticals.
